San Cristobal, Galapagos Islands
What a turnaround of events just in the last week when it pertains to marlin fishing in the Galapagos. Last week water was quite cold with our anglers focusing more on tuna, wahoo and grouper. However our latest group of anglers targeted marlin and were well rewarded
Nov 22, 2016 Spanish anglers Eduardo Maximiliano and his son Juan fished aboard the Jhonamar 2 the Rosa Blanca Banks for striped marlin. Water was 73/74 F with bait, birds and life reported. The bite was slow in the morning but once they reached the “Honey Hole” on the farthest corner of Rosa Blanca’s outer bank the party got started. They raised 11 striped marlin, had 6 bites and released 4. These were nice fish averaging 180 to 220#. A nice blue came into the spread late in the day estimated around 500# that would not give up on the teaser to convert to the pitch bait. A couple of nice 50# big eye tunas made for fresh sashimi.
Nov 23, 2016 the Maximiliano father and son team fished Rosa Blanca banks onboard Jhonamar 2. Again the bite was a bit slow until about mid day. Water conditions were similar to the day before. A nice big eye about 80# made for a great start late morning. 7 striped marlin were raised with 4 bites and 2 releases. Father and son expressed that they had fun and would be back next year. They went on to enjoy the rest of their stay in Galapagos snorkeling with sea lions, reef fish and sharks.
Nov 21, 2016 Miura fished for striped marlin with local anglers and raised 3 striped marlin with 1 release. Captain Calero reported nice conditions. Skiffs fishing in the area had similar results of mixed blue and striped marlin.
Nov 22, 2016 several skiffs reported 2 to 3 raises of striped and blue marlin with beautiful water conditions.
Nov 23, 2016 water conditions remained beautiful but the marlin did not cooperate with most skiffs reporting 1 or less raises.
Nov 22, 2016 our research skiff fished the reefs near Cabo Blanco. Seas were about 6 feet chops and water was 68 F. Several wahoo were caught averaging 50#
Dorado Cua Lodge
Nov 21-23, 2016 the bite is reported to be strong with more than a dozen golden salmon caught each day by angler in the latest trip. Come enjoy fine steaks and wines.
