By now you have probably heard or read about the fantastic striped marlin fishery in the Galapagos Islands. With the amount of nutrients, bait and structure the islands are a sanctuary for striped marlin. Fishing days of 30, 50, 70, 100 and over 150 striped marlin raises in the Galapagos are well documented. However did you know that most anglers that fish Galapagos do not spend time targeting blue and black marlin? These larger marlin are found in good numbers if anglers would take the time to look for them. There are several islands, drop offs and areas where we have consistently found a good blue and black marlin bite. On average we will raise 1 to 3 fish a day with better days 5 or 6 blues or blacks. With the amount of tuna, bonito, flying fish and wahoo found in Galapagos, big marlin are not far away.
The blue and black marlin caught in Galapagos are rarely under 400#. Most fish average 400 to 800# with a several granders encountered every year.
