As we wrap up the final newsletter of the year we look back on an exciting 2016 filled with fishing, fun, adventure and travel. Ecuagringo reached an important milestone in 2016 by releasing striped marlin # 6000 in Galapagos since we started the first charter fishing boat in 2001. No only was 2016 packed with awesome fishing, many of our guest got to discover so much more about South America. In this epic year we lived through natural disasters, caught fish, travelled and showed the world why South America should be top on every angler and adventurer’s list.

In November Ecuagringo had booth 4124 at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. We got meet new faces and chat with many old friends. This was the first time Ecuagringo had a booth at a show of any sorts. In the past most of our staff was too busy fishing but thankfully our company, staff and sales team has grown enough that we can take time out to participate in a few shows. We look forward to meeting you soon!

2016 in Review:

7.8 Earthquake

April 16, 2016 will be remembered for the tremendous 7.8 earthquake that shocked the Northwest coast of Ecuador killing unofficially over a 1000, injuring almost 28,000, turning towns and villages into rubble and leaving nearly 100,000 people homeless or displaced. It was a severe blow to the country of Ecuador with an estimated USD 3 billion in damages. Our most affected destination was Manta where a section of the city was flattened. So anglers cancelled charters and most rescheduled to fish at later dates. Family and friends came together to lend a hand and do their part to help. The humanitarian effort by the people was so great it shadowed and caused the government response to pale in comparison. We were happy to receive e-mails and phone calls from concerned folks around the world wanting to know how they could help. It was a great feeling knowing how much love and generosity was out there.

Galapagos

Putting tragedy behind and looking forward we were still able to come together to enjoy the rest of 2016 with the opportunity to meet new anglers and welcome old guests and friends. Our main fishery San Cristobal/Galapagos started off in an unusual fashion due to the effects of El Nino. Fishing would be on fire one day and slow the next. Tuna and wahoo were found in incredible numbers but in general fishing was fairly good with most guest having multiple shots at marlin, tuna and wahoo. As the effects of El Nino slowed by mid June the fishing in Galapagos, Manta and Salinas turned on! By the middle of November we were able to tally striped marlin #6000 out of Galapagos.

We had the pleasure of hosting more family groups than ever before. Galapagos are not only great for their unmatched fishing but safe for the whole family to enjoy. Our guest took advantage of the snorkeling, beaches, horseback riding, diving, island hopping, birding, site seeing and all the adventures available. If you are looking for the next trip of a lifetime that everyone young and old alike will find fascinating then you need to think about booking a trip to the Galapagos.

Ecuagringo donated a nice custom Galapagos fishing trip to TBF which was auctioned off at the Back to the 80’s Gala to support TBF and their efforts to conserve the very billfish we all love. We will continue our commitment to conservation in Ecuador, Galapagos and eventually Peru and Colombia down the line.

Manta

Captain Andres Calero had his hands full onboard Miura 27 ft. Our little custom sport fisher and fired up captain showed several anglers a good time catching blue marlin, striped marlin, wahoo and plenty of broomtail grouper and jacks. We like to think of Manta as the “poor man’s blue marlin paradise”. Manta offers the possibility of multiple shots of marlin, wahoo and grouper each day. Accompanied by low rates, great dinning, decent lodging and multiple beaches, tours and nightlife it beckons budget minded anglers to give it a try.

Salinas

Perhaps one of the most current dependent fisheries in the world, Salinas has been on the international angling map for over 70 years! Definitely a hit or miss fishery as you can experience really good fishing or really slow fishing all in the same week. Nevertheless it offers good lodging, multiple boats to choose from, affordable rates and the possibility of a grand slam of billfish. This has been a very good year for Salinas with solid fishing from June to November on most weeks. Some boats experienced high raises of striped and blue marlin on great days.

Peru

We continue to do our research and are working on providing a boat for the last part of 2017. Many anglers have expressed interest and contacted us eager for more information or to book. We are happy to say that most available dates for January 2018 are already taken. Don’t be left out and book your Peru trip today! The deserts, beaches, offshore and surf fishing in Peru are so far not disappointing. Consider fishing for a few days and then letting us arrange for an adventure to the temple city of Machu Picchu or explore the Nazca Lines. How about a desert rally onboard a dune buggy with a pro circuit driver? There is plenty to do and discover in Peru. Customize your adventure with Ecuagringo today!

Argentina

Mario Battiston operates one of the finest fishing lodges in the world with Dorado Cua Lodge. Many of our anglers had the opportunity to catch multiple and dozens of dorados each day on fly and spinning tackle. The fine wines, steaks and beautiful marshlands are reason enough to visit Argentina. Mario also operates in the Patagonia region for sea run brown trout. We can customize any type of trip your heat desires to this beautiful country.
