Jul 31, 2018Newsletter

With so much fishing and adventure going on in Ecuador, Galapagos Islands, Peru and Argentina shouldn’t you be considering your next trip to one of these incredible places. We are well into the second half of the year and it is time to inform you about what is happening.

Set Your Sights: Galapagos Islands Offering Striped Marlin, Grander Blue & Black Marlin, Hottest Top Water Tuna Action Anywhere!

The Galapagos Islands also known as the Ecantadas or Enchanted Islands probably offer more fishing, adventures and something for everyone than anywhere else in Pacific South America. Where else can you go with virtually no crime, double digit marlin bites possible per day, shots at grander marlin, incredible wahoo and tuna action, endless places to bottom fish and activities for the whole family? Ecuagringo has been developing several destinations in Ecuador & Peru for big game fishing. However, the Galapagos Islands are the crown jewel of over 20 years of effort.

Historically we have focused on offering fishing from Santa Cruz Island and later San Cristobal Island which is our base of operations today in the Galapagos. Now we have our sights on offering you Isabela Island the largest in the archipelago. Read more about Isabela and its grander marlin further down in this newsletter. If you are looking for a truly unique adventure of a lifetime and would like to combine fishing, snorkeling, diving, kayaking, island hoping or just relaxing on volcanic beaches then the Galapagos Islands are the place for you.

Best Top Water Tuna Action Anywhere?

After an incredible 2018 tuna season San Cristobal, Galapagos Islands has stood out as the place to go for double digit top water tuna bites. If you are looking at multiple shots daily for yellowfin and big eye tuna 20 to 100 lbs then Galapagos should be next on your list. You can expect 10 to 100 bites from surface feeding tuna December to May. Most runs are 45 minutes to one and a half hours.

Experience before you go all the majestic sceneries and what the landscape has to offer. Isabela Island, Galapagos May Be Your Best Shot At Grander Marlin In South America!

The largest island in the archipelago is also the best kept secret when it comes to large blue and black marlin. Ecuagringo has been doing research for quite some time with local artisanal fisherman Oscar Intriago. Intriago has caught more giant blue and black marlin than anyone else in the Galapagos.

Many of his fish have come from a dead boat tide to a FAD buoy. Prime times to target the grander blue and black marlin are January to May when waters are warmest. Isabela Island has a drop off that goes from 600 to 6000 feet. This area attracts tuna, bonito and baitfish. Intriago has caught dozens of blue and black marlin over 700 lbs in the last few years and has recorded 4 blues from 1100 to 1400 lbs and two blacks 1050 and 1100 lbs.

Deep Dropping: Galapagos Islands

It is official, we now have Lindgren Pittman electric reels in the Galapagos Islands. These are the best electric reels money can buy! Not only will we be pulling dredges for marlin but also bottom fishing for large groupers and swordfish. Work still needs to be done to pinpoint where the best spots for swordfish are but groupers can be caught on many areas of reefs and structure.
