2019 Another Incredible Marlin Fishing Year With Over 4,000 Marlin Raised So Far!
April is coming to a close and with it over 4,356 striped marlin, 68 blue marlin, and 12 black marlin raised between the 4 main boats fishing out of San Cristobal Island so far this year. Folks, if this is not perhaps the hottest marlin bite on the planet still happening now, then we don’t know what is!
Anglers have been experiencing solid double digit raises in 2018 and again in 2019. Some days have seen action from 60, 75 and 100 plus striped marlin raises. Most of these fish have averaged 150 to 200 pounds with a few fish exceeding 250 pounds.
Pretty nice for striped marlin we think! One of the common themes that guest seem to have enjoyed the most is watching multiple striped marlin in the spread attacking teasers. Guest described 2, 4 and even 8 fish in the spread at the same time. Anglers caught fish on light standup, conventional, casting and fly fishing gear. If you are looking for a destination of a lifetime with exceptional fishing then the Galapagos are for you.
Isabela Island Delivered Grander Blue Marlin
For almost 20 years Ecuagringo has been reporting about the potential for giant marlin over 1000 pounds out of Isabela Island. Teaming up with local fisherman Oscar Intriago, Ecuagringo put together a 9 day trip to Isabela Island for the first time. Oscar has caught more giant marlin than anyone in Galapagos fishing at times from a dead boat.
In the past 3 years he has weighed in cut prices 7 fish over a 1000 pounds with one fish that weight out 1400 pounds without the head, guts and tail. Sport fishing boats are not allowed to kill marlin so all billfish are released.
The contour, drops and edges that stem out from Isabela have drops that go 600 to 6000 feet and 5000 to 12,000 feet in some areas. There is generally lots of baitfish spread out anywhere from on the drop off to several miles out. One of the best attributes of fishing Isabela Island is that fishing can start just 8 miles from port and you rarely run any further than 20 miles.
The town of Puerto Villamil is home to a little over 3,000 residents and is very quiet and relaxed. Besides the great fishery there are other activities such as exploring the Sierra Negra Volcano crater, snorkeling with rays and penguins, kayaking the bay and much more.
Getting to Isabela is by boat or island hopper plane but either way is an adventure. We believe that Isabela is currently the best place in the world to have a shot or even several shots at grander marlin.
