Marlin fishing in Ecuador: Galapagos Islands, Manta and Salinas. Marlin fishing in Peru: Cabo Blanco and Mancora. We are your fishing and adventure outfitters for South America!
In our latest December report we are please to bring you the latest on the action of each fishery.
San Cristobal, Galapagos Islands:
The maintenance on our boats is about to conclude and we are anxious to get fishing aboard our sportfishers again. However because our anglers want to know, our company invests in sending some of our crews out to fish in skiffs or pangas so we can keep you informed on what is happening in these wonderful waters.
Dec 11, 2016 – The water conditions around San Cristobal Island continue to be filled with life. We asked two of our are crew members to fish on a panga out of Rosa Blanca and bring us a report. Water was 74 F upon arrival on Rosa Blanca’s main bank. The crew noticed some boobies and life as soon as they arrived. They trolled two marlin lures and a feather. It was not long before a nice big eye of around 80# took the feather. Lots of flying fish, frigates and sharks were feeding on the surface. By 11:30 they worked their way to a favorite spot on the far North East reach of the bank called the Honey Hole. After about 30 minutes fishing the area a nice striped marlin took the long right and was landed shortly after and released. By 2 PM they had raised 8 striped marlin and released 4 all around the Honey Hole. At 3:40 PM roughly a nice blue marlin estimated around 600# ate the right long. The crew fought it for about an hour before release and time to head back in.
Marlin fishing in Manta had its ups and downs this last week in December. The 100 mile weather buoy that had provided some fantastic fishing has turned off. However fishing West and North of Manta is providing decent marlin action for striped marlin and blue marlin.
Dec 9, 2016 – Two marlin fishing skiffs set out for marlin. Don Juan reported fishing 40 miles North of Manta and went 1/2 on blue marlin. Martillo fishing the same area went 1/3 on blue marlin.
Dec 10, 2016 – Don Juan fished same area as previous day and went again 1/2 on blue marlin. Martillo went 1/1 on blue marlin.
Dec 11, 2016 – Black Pearl headed out for marlin but reported no action and current had changed to the North.
Dec 13, 2016 – Atomic fished West of Manta and reported beautiful conditions with lots of flying fish. They went 0/5 on the blue marlin which would not stay on and settled for 1/3 on striped marlin. They raised 8 marlin in total. Not a bad day.
Dec 9 to 12, 2016 – various boats fishing the area reported no marlin and only a few wahoo caught. Water conditions remained blue/green with currents pushing North.
Mancora/Cabo Blanco, Peru:
Dec 13, 2016 – A boat from Ecuador fishing the area reported good action on the Mancora Bank about 40 miles out with water 74 F. They caught several big eye tuna 40 to 60# range. They went 3/7 on the striped marlin on the bank and reported raising a very large blue about half a mile off the bank while fishing its Southern corner. Birds, dolphins and life were on the bank.
Folks we still have some dates available for several of our destinations.
We love to pioneer and revive exotic marlin fishing destinations in South America. Galapagos was our first major marlin fishing hotspot that we worked hard to put the first charter boat in 2001.
The Ecuagringo staff makes an effort to provide updated fishing reports for all our destinations. Please tell your family and friends about us. The more we fish the more we can contribute to local families with jobs and incentives to help preserve catch/release and sustainable fisheries
