Fellow Anglers,
This has been a crazy year with waters warming up in the Galapagos again the last two weeks. 73 to 75 F is perfect water for striped marlin and it really seems to activate the bait. 0-30 Bank was reported by fellow Captain Nicolass Schiess fishing on his boat Tesoro out of Santa Cruz Island to be red hot with 30 plus raises daily just last week. This week Captain Gus Hernandez had a hell of a bite fishing with a group from Argentina onboard On The Hook. Manta, Ecuador had some ok fishing over the last few days.
Galapagos Islands
San Cristobal Island:
September 3, 2018– On The Hook with a group of 4 anglers from Argentina had the time of their life raising 21 striped marlin out of 0-30 Bank with super conditions. Water was 3 to 4 foot seas with wind at 12 knots making the seas bearable. The bank was loaded with sardines and the marlin did not disappoint. They managed to have 14 bites and released 6 striped marlin as the anglers were quite inexperienced but wanted to hook the fish themselves.
September 4, 2018– Conditions continued much the same and On The Hook returned to 0-30 Bank where they raised 29 striped marlin, had 20 bites and released 9 striped marlin. Before the end of the day Captain Gus went off the bank and reported hooking into a monster black marlin in the area called the Bulls Eye. After quite a bit of cockpit chaos and unexperienced angler caused a birds nest and a busted line. Fish was estimated over 900#.
September 5, 2018– On The Hook on its final day of fishing and the guest from Argentina wanted to fish for something else so they headed to Punta Pitt to fish for tunas o poppers. The top water action was not ideal but they still managed to catch 8 yellowfin tuna around 50# and several mahi mahi on one of the FAD buoys.
Ecuador
Manta:
September 2, 2018– Panga Don Julio reported 1/2 on blue marlin. Panga Ernesto 0/1 on blue marlin and Panga Mazinger went 1/3 on striped marlin.
