Fellow Anglers,
The fishing in the Galapagos continues strong with double digits raises. Some of the striped marlin the past week have been reported to be around 300 pounds. Guest are catching striped marlin in mostly smooth sea conditions with a couple days of some chop recently but all around good weather. Heavy chlorophyll bloom moved in this week with greener water but that did not stop the marlin.
Dolphins, boobie birds, sea lions and marlin feeding on the surface make for an angler’s dream in the Galapagos. Fishing continues to be strong despite non optimal water clarity and crews mentioned seeing lots of fish on the surface.
March 11-15, 2019– On The Hook with Captain Gus Hernandez fished for marlin 4 days of 5 this past week and raised 103 striped marlin and 1 blue marlin. A total of 59 bites and 17 releases of striped marlin and 1 blue marlin released. Captain Gus fished with Tab Betsworth and his family. He also started fishing with Clayton Williams and his family. On The Hook also fished one day for bottom fishing and had fun catching grouper, wrasse and jacks.
Vertigo fishing with Peter Santini and his guests raised 123 striped marlin and 3 blue marlin with 73 bites and 25 releases of striped marlin and 1 blue marlin. They also fished 4 days for marlin and then a half day with bottom fishing included.
Folks so far this year two boats have fished a combined 102 days out of San Cristobal Island and one boat only had two days without catching marlin. Marlin have been caught on 100 out of 102 days of combined marlin fishing between two boats. These are incredible odds.
