Galapagos Marlin Fishing Report
Some years there is no such thing it seems as an off season in the Galapagos Islands! The Galapagos are now famous for their year round marlin action and especially striped marlin. Catch a warmer than usual year like 2023 and the blue marlin and some black marlin become more consistent if you are looking for them.
Water temperatures ranging from 74 to 76 F throughout the archipelago are still keeping the bigger girls around. Striped marlin seem to care little about water temperature and are found as long as the sardines are plentiful. Not only have striped marlin and sardines been plentiful but the yellowfin tuna are very common right now.
We source our reports from our crews and local artisanal fishermen to know what is going on even when no guest are fishing. You could say that there really is no “slow” or offseason some years in the Galapagos. Take advantage of some of our out of season specials and be handsomely rewarded.
Santa Cruz Island
Oct 17, 2023– Artesanal fishermen reported seeing lots of tailing striped marlin on 0-30 bank while fishing for yellowfin tuna. 2 pangas hand-line trolling feathers brought back over 20 tunas per boat averaging 15 to 70 pounds in size. Great opportunity for topwater action.
Oct 18, 2023– Hearing about the incredible tuna action and the tailing striped marlin we sent out the crew of Patricia to fish and get a report from the 0-30 Bank. Captain Yuri Gutierrez took this time to get first mate Jairon Gutierrez some practice at the wheel. They fished with family and raised 25 striped marlin, had 15 bites and released 7 on lures.
They closed out the day with a blue marlin about 400# and 8 yellowfin tuna 20 to 60 pounds. Captain Gutierrez said the tunas on the surface were actively busting sardines and flying fish pretty much all day.
