Ecuador & Galapagos Marlin & Tuna Fishing Report

October 13-16, 2017

Fellow Anglers:

The last few days have produced striped marlin and blue marlin in Manta/Ecuador. Last year Manta had some of its best fishing in October and November. The change of season is slowly turning all over Ecuador and can be felt especially in the Galapagos where waters slowly start to warm up. Weather conditions are setting themselves up to quite possibly bring more great fishing. Historically, some of the best striped marlin fishing we have seen in Galapagos has been October and November. Most anglers prefer the flat calm seas of December to April in Galapagos but those who venture in October and November have been highly rewarded in the past.

The Ecuagringo Fishing Team is investing in Lindgren Pitman LP 1200 reels and equipment to soon begin offering swordfish charters day and night in Ecuador and the Galapagos. Stay tuned for the results from our team testing the waters for giant swordfish! Ecuador and Peru have been known to produce very large specimens and with no one fishing for them in the daytime we think it is only a matter of time before we have them dialed in.

October 13, 2017– Miura captained by Andres Calero welcomed Robert Browning, Wes Parrish and Mike Oliver for their first fishing trip in Manta. Robert released 1/1 on blue marlin and they raised another billfish but could not tell what type that bit and spit the bait. Panga Don Teofilo went 0/1 on blue marlin and 1/1 on striped marlin.

October 14, 2017– Miura again with Robert, Wes and Mike they went 0/1 on blue marlin and 0/2 on blue marlin by way of pitching ballyhoos. Each fish switched to eat from the teasers but none gave a good hooks. Panga Tenorio went 2/2 on blue marlin. Panga Henry fishing further South went 1/3 on striped marlin.

October 15, 2017– Miura fished with Robert, Wes and Mike and went 2/3 on blue marlin on the pitch baits. It was a fun filled day and the fish were 200 to 300# in size on average. A nice mahi-mahi was landed for a possible dinner fish. Panga Mazinger went 1/4 on blue marlin and panga Tenorio went 1/3 on blue marlin and 1/2 on striped marlin.

October 16, 2017– Last day for Robert and company on the Miura. The sea seemed promising but the fish just did not cooperate and they had no action from billfish. Panga Henry reported 1/2 on striped marlin fishing further North.
