The marlin bite in August has been a bit slow all over Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. The wahoo bite has been quite good especially in Salinas and some wahoo are being caught out of Manta while targeting marlin. Galapagos has slowed down in general for this time of the year with water cooling to 72 F but with few tuna and wahoo reported in the last week.

Ecuador

Salinas:

August 4 and 5, 2018– Several boats reported 5 to 15 wahoo bites average fishing out of various banks found near Salinas an 25 miles North. Most fish have averaged 40 to 70lbs.

August 6, 2018– A boat from the Salinas Yacht Club boated a 772 lb blue marlin.

Manta:

August 4, 2018– Atomic fishing 90 miles North of Manta on a FAD buoy went 2/4 on blue marlin.

August 6, 2018– Steven Chasteen along with his wife and parents fished out of Manta onboard Marylou with great water temperature and conditions in the morning. The fishing was very slow and the boat mades its way out to 25 miles with only a couple of mahi mahi coming into the spread and catching one small mahi.

August 7, 2018– Steven Chasteen and family again fished out of Manta but targeted the 6 to 18 miles out area known for striped and black marlin. The day produced 2/3 nice wahoo and a lost striped marlin.

Galapagos Islands

No boats have been chartered last few days. Local Artisanal fishermen have reported a slow bite for tuna and wahoo in general. Water temperature averaging 72 F in the South and 74 F in the North.

Folks don’t miss out your change to fish the prime season for any of our destinations. The Galapagos are booked up from December to March over 80% and now April and May will be going fast. Your family deserves a trip of a lifetime so now is the time to start planning 2019 and even 2020. Isabela Island will soon be coming into play with its huge blue and black marlin caught starting 8 miles from port.
