Fellow anglers,
We are in the windiest time of the year and the offseason for the Galapagos Islands. September has been quite rough but the striped marlin have been around in decent numbers and have been rather large with several large fish 250 to 300 plus pounds caught and released. The wahoo fishing has been very good as well.
Local anglers and mates fishing the Western side of San Cristobal Island around La Barcasa reported catching 20 to 30 wahoo each skiff fishing September 27-28. Some of our mates fish wahoo for the local market when not working on our boats with guest. Most wahoo averaged 25 to 55 pounds. Some yellowfin tuna were also caught and most fish bit diving lures and leaded surface skirts.
September 29, 2019– We sent Captain Gus onboard On The Hook to check out waters off the Banks of Española. Seas were rough and averaged 5 feet which made it less than ideal to fish. Nevertheless they managed to raised 10 striped marlin from 10 to 2 pm and release 4 from 6 bites as conditions made it difficult to fish. All fish released were over 200 pounds and two were estimated to be close to 300 pounds.
Seas will begin to get better come late October and November. If you are looking for a late minute place to target marlin, wahoo and tuna then San Cristobal, Galapagos Islands is your place to go. Contact us today to plan your trip of a lifetime.
