Phenomenal double digit marlin bite in Galapagos happening now. Manta’s blue marlin bite wakes up!

The striped marlin action in the Galapagos has been off the charts. Boats reporting 10, 30 and and 40 plus daily raises of striped marlin and some blue and black marlin action mixed in. Oh and the tuna top water actions continues strong. Manta, Ecuador has woken up from a 3 month slumber and May is starting to welcome 1 to 4 raises of blue marlin a day.

Galapagos Islands

San Cristobal Island:

May 4, 2018– On The Hook fishing near Espanola Island with guest from Argentina went looking for tuna but noticed dozens of tailing striped marlin and quickly switched to trolling 30# and 50#. They raised 19 striped marlin had 12 bites and released 7. 2 nice big eye tunas of 80# were also caught that made for good sashimi on board. Water conditions were perfect with lots of sardines and water temperature 77 F.

May 5, 2018– On The Hook returned to Espanola Island but this time to focus on the top water tuna action. They had over 60 bites from yellowfin and bigeye tuna and caught 27 fish. They also reported seeing dozens of tailing striped marlin on the surface in pods of 2, 3, 6 and 10 fish at a time feeding on sardines.

May 6, 2018– On the Hook fished Espanola Island trolling for marlin and raised 26 striped marlin and 1 blue marlin. They got 15 bites and released 5 striped marlin on lures and went 1/1 on blue marlin around 400#. Late afternoon they hooked a big eye tuna that crashed the teasers and ate a small lure on a 30#. The fish was estimated around 250# from the voracious bite and soon after the hook up a sea lion chasing the fish managed to get caught on the line and broke the fish off.

May 8, 2018– Tesoro Galapagos with Captain Nicolas Schiess fishing 0-30 Bank reported 30 bites from striped marlin and released 6. Lost of hot action from striped marlin.

May 9, 2018– Jhonamar 2 fishing with guest from France went to search for large marlin so they fished Northwest of Punta Pitt. They raised a black marlin over 500# that could not eat any of the lures but staying the spread for about 40 seconds. They went 2/9 on striped marlin and released a nice blue marlin around 450# late in the day.

Manta:

May 6, 2018– Miura with Captain Andres Calero fished 40 miles West of Manta and found good conditions. They raised 2 blue marlin and went 1/2

May 7, 2018– Panga Don Teofilo went 1/4 on blue marlin about 35 miles out. Panga Mazinger had 0/2 on blue marlin and Panga Johao went 1/3 on blue marlin.

May 8, 2018– Miura with Captain Andres Calero went 1/3 on a nice blue marlin estimated around 350#.

Folks the marlin bite in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands is quite good.
