May 1, 2017Fishing Reports

Fellow Anglers,

The last few days has brought fantastic action from tuna! Galapagos has been on fire with some of the best tuna fishing found anywhere in the world. If you want fast paced rod bending then you need to fish The Galápagos Islands.

Galápagos Islands:

San Cristobal Island

April 25, 2017– On The Hook fished near Punta Pitt and caught 8 big eye tunas 30 to 55 lbs. After mid day they fished 8 miles offshore where by 1 pm they hooked and released a black Marlin estimated over 600lb. Just before lines in they had a double hookup of striped marlin late afternoon and released both fish.

April 26, 2017– On The Hook returned to fish Punta Pitt and caught 3 wahoo near The Barcasa Reef. No big eye tuna were seen as day before so they ran 12 miles further offshore where they found acres of skipjack tuna. After catching 6 skipjacks about 3 to 10 lbs they rigged a couple as skipping baits. About 45 minutes into the troll a nice blue marlin about 500 crashed the left bai but spit the hook. They fished working their way about 3 miles further out where they saw 3 tailing striped marlin and got one to commit and release on a ballyhoo. By 2:30 pm they raised a blue marlin around 300. By 3:40 they were ready to star back in when they spotted a very big black marlin tailing near a school of skipjacks. Fish followed a large magnum Moldcraft teaser close to boat but would not take bait. The black was estimated over 700.

April 27, 2017– Jhonamar 2 reported fishing Española Banks and catching 12 big eye tuna 35 to 45# average, 8 skipjacks around 20# each and releasing 4 out of 6 striped marlin.

April 29, 2017– On The Hook fishing Española Banks with water temp dipping to a cooler 78 F. The morning gave way to seeing about a dozen striped marlin tailing in groups of 2 and 3. The crew raised 5 striped marlin and released 2 out of 3 bites before mid day. They ran closer to the island to fish for wahoo in the afternoon and caught 3 wahoo around 35#.

Santa Cruz Island

April 26, 2017– Patricia fishing bank 0-30 with a group from Uruguay they caught 14 big eye tuna 65 to 90# average. They also raised 2 striped marlin.
