Fellow Anglers,
The past week has brought some large blue and black marlin into action behind boats fishing out of Manta-Ecuador. Galapagos experienced an incredible tuna and wahoo bite with a wahoo weighed in at 92 lbs!

Manta:
July 14, 2017– Miura captain by Andres Calero fished 30 miles out and had action from 2 striped marlin and released one. They had a nice blue around 400# come into the spread but would not switch to the bait. Panga Don Teofilo went 2/3 on striped marlin and lost a nice blue over 500# fishing almost next to Miura.
July 15, 2017– Colder water was holding 20 to 40 miles out of Manta. Miura released a striped marlin, caught a wahoo and did not have anymore action during the day. Panga Explorer went 1/2 on striped marlin and a wahoo.
July 16, 2017– Miura fished 30 miles out and raised a striped marlin and missed it. They trolled in closer to search for black marlin and around 20 miles out hooked a blue estimated over 800 lbs. Angler Jose Diaz fought the blue for 37 minutes before it pulled the hook. The fish straightened an 11/0 Mustard hook on an 80# Tiagra outfit.
July 17, 2017– Most of the local panga fleet stayed in because of the colder water hanging around Manta but panga Henry fished 55 to 60 miles out and went 1/2 on blue marlin landing a nice blue over 600 lbs and loosing another fish similar in size off a double bite. They also went 0/2 on striped marlin and saw several more striped marlin tailing. Current was pushing North.

Santa Cruz Island
July 15, 2017– Patricia fishing with Captain Yuri Gutierrez and mate Jairon Gutierrez had a fantastic hot action day catching 9 wahoo with one fish weighing in at 83 lbs and another at 92 lbs. The colder water brings the big wahoo in to feed.
July 16, 2017– Patricia fished for tuna with guest from Brazil on Hancock Bank. They caught big eyes trolling and then deiced to cat surface plugs at feeding tuna. They had a fun day with 12 big eye tunas from 15 to 45 lbs.
San Cristobal Island
July 17, 2017– Mates Ronnie Yagual and Julio Rodriguez went on panga Erika to get us a fishing report. They fished Rosa Blanca Banks and found water to be 71/72 F by using a pool thermometer. They managed to raised 4 striped marlin trolling two lures and released one estimated around 250# and caught a nice big eye tuna that weighed in 89 lbs. Late in the day the fished Pescador Rock and caught 4 wahoo averaging 55 to 65 lbs.
Our other destinations such as Salinas/Ecuador and Cabo Blanco/Peru have colder water right now which slows down the marlin bite tremendously.
