Galapagos Islands

San Cristobal

During the month of September the water has cooled down a bit more than it was in August. Average water temperatures in fishing areas for striped marlin have been 69 to 72 F. The marlin bite has slowed in the last two weeks. Some areas have seen an increase in flying fish and bird activity so it more than likely will not be long until the marlin show up. Some tunas have been caught off McGowen Reef, Punta Pitt and Hancock Bank.

Sept 9, 2014– Angler Alan Kieckbusch fished onboard the Johnamar 2 with Capt Fernando Yepez and headed for Espanola where most of the striped marlin action has been this year. Seas were choppy 3 feet and water had a green tint with temperatures 69 to 71 F on various parts of the banks. No marlin were seen and not a lot of life except for a few birds and sea lions.

Sept 10, 2014– They headed for Rosa Blanca and found a lot more bird life and flying fish with water temps 70 to 72 F. No marlin raised even though conditions looked promising. Seas were 6 feet and choppy with lots of cloud cover. In the afternoon they headed for Punta Pitt fishing near the reef called the Barge or Barcasa and caught half a dozen small big eye tuna.

Fishing can be up and down depending on bait and currents. We will keep you posted on additional action from Galapagos.
