Galapagos Islands

San Cristobal

Feb 15, 2013– Besides scattered drizzles here and there the weather was pefect for fishing. Onboard the Vertigo we set out with Mike Eakins and Tom Noonhan to fish Rosa Blanca Bank. Mike and Tom have been fishing with me since 2006 and have caught many marlin and tuna all those years. The seas were flat calm and water temp was around 76/77.

Water clarity was good with a green/blue color. A good amount of dolphins and a few sea lions were scattered around the bank. Around 10:00 am a nice blue of 200 plus came on the left bridge teaser and strip some line off before we realized what was going on.

The fish was teased to the boat Mike pitched a bait perfectly and the teaser was yanked. The blues follow the ballyhoo and everything seemed right to get a bite but it just veered off at the last second to follow the boat on the starboard side for a few seconds and fade off. An hour later we would have a teaser bite by another marlin but could not tell what type it was. As the day went on Mike lost a decent tuna 2 minutes into the fight and Tom caught a 51# big eye that made for a terrific dinner prepared by Peter Santini.
