The Galapagos Islands are well known for their consistent marlin, tuna, wahoo and bottom fish bite. Ecuagringo will be hosting anglers starting December 2020 as flights are becoming more regular. The Galapagos Islands have been open since July 1, 2020 but getting there was trivial at first because of reduced flights due to he Covid19 pandemic.
Now flights are becoming more regular. Plenty of marlin and tuna action reported by our crews who fish off of skiffs and pangas for local market. Some of our mates will provide reports when asked and we love to share them with you. We only report catches caught on rod and reel.
December 13, 2020- Captain Rodriguez headed to Española Island on his panga to fish and troll for tuna and wahoo. He focused on yellowfin tuna and wahoo by pulling two 50# rods with diving plugs.
Fishing the reefs half a mile to a mile off the beach of Española Island’s North side he reported an incredible 53 bites from yellowfin tuna, wahoo, barracuda and even grouper. The total tally was 15 yellowfin tuna 55 to 90 pounds, 6 wahoo, 2 mahi mahi, 5 barracuda and 2 nice grouper.
December 14, 2020- We asked Captain Rodriguez to head to Española Bank on his panga and pull two teasers from 50# marlin stand up rods. The bank was loaded with frigates and diving boobie birds as soon as they arrived. Yellowfin tuna and striped marlin were seen on the surface chasing sardines.
It did not take long before several striped marlin were following teasers. They fished for about 6 hours and managed to raise 41 striped marlin to the teasers and had an estimated 500# blue marlin crash one of the teasers about 3 times in a row. Had it been one of our sport-fishers out there you can only imagine the kind of action they would have had.
