Galapagos Islands
San Cristobal
January 2013– Well folks we are kicking off 2013 with sunny skies and very nice weather in the Galapagos. The seas have been flat calm the last few days and air a little cooler than usual with some fog early morning while navigating to 88 Bank.
I had the pleasure of fishing with Ruth and Dan Charpie from Missouri. 3 days of fishing onboard the Vertigo have had some mixed results.
The fishing in Rosa Blanca has been slow with no marlin raised on January 16th. A 35# big eye would make for a great meal and not much else went on during the day. We tried a hand at wahoo fishing in the afternoon by the rocks and lost a nice wahoo less than 20 feet from the boat.
The next day January 17, we headed out on the Vertigo for 88 Bank. Very nice calm ride onboard the Vertigo. Lots of small big eye tuna on the bank became a nuisance while trying to raise marlin. 4 single striped marlin came to play through the day and we could not entice any to take a pitch bait but rather two fish hit a lure intended for large big eyes.
January 18 we tried our luck for blue marlin along the North West drop of San Cristobal but the green water was almost everywhere and the water clarity was very bad thus hindering our chances at a blue. Two large bull dorado attacked or teaser during the day. One fish was estimated over 50#.
Tomorrow I have the day off before fishing again and will have more to report from the beautiful Galapagos.
