If you still have your doubts about how good the fishing can be in the Galapagos Islands then be sure to read this report. The yellowfin tuna bite has been phenomenal for guest fishing out of Santa Cruz and San Cristobal Island. There has also been good blue, black marlin and striped marlin action reported as in the Galapagos water is still fairly warm.
Galapagos Islands
San Cristobal Island:
April 24, 2018– Jhonamar 2 fishing out of Floreana Island with guest from Uruguay hooked and fought very nice blue marlin estimated over 700 # that they lost about 20 feet from leader after an hour and 40 minutes. They went 1/2 on striped marlin and ended the day with 5 nice yellowfin tuna averaging 65#. On The Hook fishing with guest from Argentina went 17/38 on yellow fin tuna on surface plugs fishing McGowen Reef.
April 25, 2018– Jhonamar 2 returned to Floreana Island to fish a buoy FAD and caught several nice mahi-mahi. After not raising marlin for two hours around the FAD they fished towards Post Office and hooked and released a nice black marlin around 500#. They raised a striped marlin that they missed and late in the day hooked and released a blue marlin around 350#.
April 26, 2018– Jhonamar 2 fished its last day with guest from Uruguay and they headed for the San Cristobal drop off just North of Punta Pitt. The wonderful area where the Panama Current meets San Cristobal Island has been a very productive fishing hole for blue and black marlin year after year. Sometimes it is a feast or famine type spot but when conditions are right it can pay off immensely. The area was teaming with wildlife from sea lions, manta rays, sea turtles and even a whale shark was making its presence known. Within the first hour of fishing a striped marlin was raised and 2 more would come into the spread with 1 bite and a release of a nice stripey. Close to 11:00 AM they raised their first big marlin and it was a black marlin estimated around 600# that fought for about 20 minutes before spitting the hook. Then as they were serving lunch a blue marlin around 400# would get a good hook set and be released about 30 minutes later. Right before 1:30 PM they had a double of blue marlin in the spread and hook the smaller fish estimated around 300# and the larger fish spit the hook after the first jump but was estimated over 800#. What a day but there would be more as close to 3:00 PM they would have a striped marlin and a nice blue in the spread at the same time. They day would end with 2/4 on striped marlin, 0/1 on black marlin and 2/4 on blue marlin.
April 27, 2018– On The Hook hoping to capitalize on the good bite the Jhonamar 2 had near Punta Pitt went to fish same area. They found sea lions and lots of bonito. They went 1/4 on striped marlin and 0/1 on a very nice blue marlin around 600# and caught a nice big eye tuna around 120#. Before the end of the day they hooked a black marlin around 400# that they released.
April 28, 2018– On The Hook fished for top water tunas near Barcasa Reef. They had 25/60 yellowfin and big eye tunas mixed on the surface plus and also caught 2 wahoo on the casting plugs.
Santa Cruz Island:
April 22, 2018– Patricia fishing with guest from UK had a fun filled day trolling for wahoo and tuna on Hancock Bank. They caught 9/17 yellowfin tuna on the troll and went 6/13 on wahoo.
April 23, 2018– Patricia fishing Floreana Island caught a black marlin estimated around 500# near Post Office and lost a blue marlin near the buoy FAD. They also had action from a couple big eye tunas averaging 80# that made for very good sashimi.
Ecuador
Manta:
April 29, 2018– The fishing continues a bit slow which is normal for this time of the year. Panga Don Tiofala went 0/1 on blue marlin and panga Mazinger went 0/0 fishing about 35 miles West of Manta. Currents continue to push North and water clarity is not optimal.
