Some phenomenal fishing in Manta-Ecuador has been going on the last few days with multiple daily bites of blue marlin. The Galapagos waters have cooled a little and a striped marlin bite has shown some activity.
Ecuador:
Manta
After about a week of slow action, Manta has exploded again with a terrific blue marlin bite. Fishing was under par from May 16 to the 24 with 3 raises or less on average between most boats. However, May 25 things turned around!
May 25, 2017– The panga fleet from San Mateo fishing Northwest of Manta about 45 miles reported 3 to 5 raises of blue marlin. Atomic, a local sport fisher went 1/3 on blue marlin and lost a striped marlin. Panga Eduardo went 2/4 on blue marlin. Panga Maribel went 4/6 on blue marlin and 1/2 on striped marlin. Panga Panita went 1/1 on black marlin and 1/2 on blue marlin. Panga Noel went 0/1 on a large black marlin lost after 3 hours estimated over 900#.
May 26, 2017– The fishing was mixed as panga Teofilo had an amazing day raising 5 striped marlin, 2 blue marlin, 1 black marlin and 1 sailfish but only caught a blue marlin and a sailfish out of the bunch. Panga Mazinger went 1/2 on blue marlin and harpooned a sunning swordfish about 200#. Panga Noel went 0/1 on striped marlin. Panga Explorer went 3/3 on blue marlin and panga Eduardo went 0/1 on blue marlin.
May 27, 2017– San Thomas went 1/2 on blue marlin, Amalita 1/1 on black marlin. Water conditions were nice but fishing was a bit slow for the day. Panga Teofilo went 1/2 on blue marlin. Panga Capitan Arana went 1/2 on black marlin and a sailfish. Panga Eduardo went 2/4 on blue marlin. Panga Mi Pana went 0/0.
May 28, 2017– A good current pushing South settled and the fishing exploded with water 79 F. Amalita went 3/6 on blue marlin. Atomic went 2/5 on blue marlin a 1/1 on black marlin. Panga Mazinger went 2/4 on blue marlin. Panga Explorer went 3/8 on blue marlin. Panga Don Lorenzo went 3/7 on blue marlin and lost a black marlin estimated around 600#. Panga Panita went 4/9 on blue marlin.
Salinas
May 27, 2017– Don Julio fished 30 miles out and went 1/2 on blue marlin and a nice mahi mahi.
May 29, 2017– Don Julio caught a sailfish and a mahi mahi about 50#

San Cristobal
May 21, 2017– Jhonamar 2 fished the area of Santa Fe and caught 2 nice wahoo around 40#, a couple of almaco jacks and 2 yellowfin tuna.
May 22, 2017– Jhonamar 2 fishing Punta Pitt went 1/2 on blue marlin and 1/2 on striped marlin.
May 23, 2017– Jhonamar 2 headed for 0-30 Bank to look for tuna. The tuna bite was a bit slow and they caught 2 big eyes around 50#. Late in the afternoon a nice black marlin around 400# came to check out the spread but missed a lure twice.
May 25, 2017– On the Hook fishing with guest from Norway fished Espanola Banks and raised 8 striped marlin and released 4. A few nice tuna would make for some fresh sushi.
May 26, 2017– On the Hook returned to Espanola Banks and raised 11 striped marlin and released 6.
May 27, 2017– On the Hook fished its last day with group from Norway and they returned to Espanola. The striped marlin bite slowed with only 2 stripes raised but a nice blue marlin would put the icing on the cake late afternoon.
