Fellow Anglers,
It is mid through February and we have some exciting news from various destinations. Besides fishing details that will follow we have savings on last minute dates open to fish for marlin, tuna or bottom fishing. The destination that has stood out the last few days was Manta.
Ecuador:
Ecuador has several great destinations to fish, dive, snorkel and tour. Galapagos, Manta, Esmeraldas and Salinas are all offered to charter.
Manta
The last two weeks in Manta has put this destination on the spotlight with terrific striped and blue marlin fishing. Manta has been on the international billfish scene for many years. However, its popularity is growing as it offers very good marlin fishing. For those anglers who like to jig and bottom fish the grouper and jack fishing has been phenomenal. Due to the local fleet of artisanal fishermen on pangas we are able to get continuous reports. There are few boats that sport fish from Manta but this destination each year grows in popularity.

San Cristobal/Galapagos Islands
The marlin fishing in Galapagos has been the slowest we have seen in 5 years over the last 3 weeks. Green water filled with chlorophyll in some areas and very high temperatures (81 to 85 F) have made the bait scarce in the Eastern part of the archipelago. The tuna fishing has not been bad and anglers have enjoyed catching them with poppers or on the troll.
Feb 9/10, 2017– The group fished each morning onboard the Jhonamar 2 for marlin a couple of hours with no luck. The spent late morning and afternoons targeting tuna and caught their share of big eye tunas each day. Lost of green water reported near Floreana. The area named the Orca was quite productive with tuna.
Feb 11, 2017– Richard Mckenzie and family went for a snorkel private tour of Kicker Rock. In the afternoon they fished 5 Fingers Rock for tuna and caught a few nice big eyer jigging and lost a few more.
Feb 12, 2017– Richard Meckenzie and family onboard Jhonamar 2 fished Rosa Blanca banks but went 1/2 for wahoo and no marlin. Water was dirty green with an abundance of chlorophyll.
Feb 13, 2017– The McKenzie family fished Punta Pitt onboard Jhonamar 2searching for marlin in the morning and part of the afternoon. After no luck on marlin they decided to bottom fish catching as few jacks and reef fish.
Feb 14, 2017– The last day fishing with the Mckenzie family captain Julio Rodriguez took the Jhonamar to fish the Orca near Floreana. Their dream of catching a striped marlin came true. They also caught 9 tunas between yellow fin and big eyes and had several more bites on poppers and light tackle.
