Ecuagringo Marlin and Tuna Big Game Fishing Report

Jan 10, 2017Fishing Reports

Fellow Anglers:

2017 continues to be impressive with terrific fishing in most of our destinations. Esmeraldas is the next up and coming destination and the latest report is impressive. Good numbers of blue marlin with striped marlin were found the last few days in Manta and Salinas, Ecuador. The marlin bite and tuna bite continues to be strong in Galapagos. Ecuagringo will soon start putting out an inshore and bottom fishing report to inform anglers interested in casting, popping and jigging for the smaller gamefish.

All areas of Ecuador were productive with marlin the last few days. Sea conditions and weather have cooperated to make Ecuador an ideal location to be fishing.

Manta continues to produce a good amount of blue and striped marlin each day and is possibly the most consistent natural fishery for blue marlin in South America.

Jan 7, 2017 – Miura reported very nice water 30 miles West of Manta. They raised 4 blue marlin and released 2 and went 1/2 on striped marlin. Panga Panita fishing the same area went 2/3 on blue marlin and 0/2 on striped marlin.

Jan 8, 2017 – Miura fishing South near la Plata Island raised 5 striped marlin and released 2. Panga Teofilo fishing 40 miles Northwest of Manta raised 8 blue marlin had 5 bites and released 3. Tenorio 2 went 3/5 on blue marlin. Mi Suerte raised 6 blue marlin and caught 2 and 1/2 on striped marlin. Angel Miguel went 2/3 on blue marlin.

Jan 9, 2017 – Amiramar fishing its way from Salinas to Manta raised 9 striped marlin had 8 bites and caught 1. Teofilo fishing 35 miles West of Manta went 2/5 on blue marlin. Tenorio 2 had an awesome day raising 9 blue marlin and going 5/8 on bites plus a black estimated at 400#. Panita went 1/2 on blue marlin and 0/1 on striped marlin.

Esmeraldas is perhaps Ecuador’s last frontier sitting North on the border with Colombia. Very little fishing pressure, hardly any boats and plenty of hungry blue marlin.

Jan 6, 2017 – Solo Mia 23ft fishing West of Casa Blanca Club and Marina raised 15 blue marlin had 11 bites and caught 0. Water conditions were beautiful with cobalt blue.

Jan 7, 2017 – Solo Mia returned to the same area of the previous day and raised 9 blue marlin, had 9 bites and caught 2 blues that got tail wrapped.

Jan 8, 2017 – Solo Mia once again fishing as the lone boat out of Casa Blanca Club and Marina raised 4 blues had 3 bites and caught 1.

Salinas picked up again with decent fishing for blue and striped marlin after about 3 or 4 very slow days.

Jan 7, 2017 – Joshua went 1/2 on blue marlin.

Jan 8, 2017 – Por Fin 2/3 on blue marlin and Bebella went 2/2 on blue marlin.

Galapagos Islands:

San Cristobal Island

Fishing for all the species has been very good! Crews are reporting a high number of sardines and lots of bonito. As more anglers arrive to fish we will have more reports.

Jan 7, 2017- Ecuagringo mate Julio Rodriguez went out on his panga to gather a report. He fished 0-30 bank and reported a good big eye tuna bite catching 8/13 bites of fish 25 to 55#. He raised 8 striped marlin and released 2. Off the bank he covered a spot known as the “Bullseye” where many nice black marlin have been caught.
