Fellow Anglers:
The fishing has been good in some of our locations and slow in others. Most of the Coast of Ecuador and Peru has been still holding waters over 78 F. The El Niño presence has been felt and has caused good fishing in some areas and poor fishing in others for marlin. Most of February and the beginning of March has seen unusually slow fishing for striped marlin in the Galapagos Islands. Manta has slowed down for about two weeks now and Salinas has been all over with good fishing one day and slow the next. Nevertheless marlin are still being caught in all our offshore destinations. The tuna bite in Galapagos has been phenomenal for those looking to throw poppers at them.
Here is the latest action from our Ecuadorian waters:
Salinas:
March 5, 2016 saw action from marlin, dorado and swordfish. Water in 78 F with good conditions. Chasin Tail raised 4 striped marlin, a mystery marlin that bit, had 3 bites from striped marlin and caught 1 stripey. They also saw a non responsive swordfish and caught 3 dorados.
Boats La Mari and Aventura had no marlin action and lost dorado.
March 7, 2016 Chasin Tail reported raising 2 striped marlin and losing two, and catching dorado. Sea Walker went 2 out of 8 striped marlin raised. Moni raised 2 striped marlin and lost a swordfish to a hard fight and caught dorado. Mahiway raised 8 striped marlin, 1 black marlin, lost a striped marlin and caught several dorado. Juvenil had a 7 striped marlin raised and lost 1, raised a black marlin and lost it and caught several dorado.
Manta:
March 2, 2016 Telita reported losing a black marlin and another marlin that was not identified. They saw a swordfish that did not want to eat. Miura went jigging and caught 30 almaco jacks and saw a striped marlin while jigging which followed a popper but did not bite.
San Cristobal, Galapagos Islands:
The last two weeks the Vertigo 2 and Jhonamar 2 have been mainly tuna and wahoo fishing. The tuna bite with poppers has reported big eyes from 25 to 100 plus lbs. The striped marlin bite has been off because of the El Niño. Vertigo 2 did report a black marlin caught last week and several striped marlin on different days.
Peru:
We are not yet actively fishing in Peru but are planning to be ready by late 2017. The interest has been overwhelming and we hope to be able to satisfy the demand as soon as we are ready to book.
We will keep you posted.
Thank you to all our faithful anglers and followers.
