Feb 1, 2016Fishing Reports

Fishing can fluctuate from one day to another and it certainly did in various destinations of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands for the week of Jan 24 to 30, 2016. San Cristobal/Galapagos, Salinas and Manta all had beautiful water and calm seas most days this week.

San Cristobal Galapagos Islands

Jan 27, 2016 had anglers Mauricio Coloma and his Dad fishing onboard the Jhonamar 2. Their first day fishing they trolled Rosa Blanca Bank and the banks off of Espanola. The day was beautiful and water was dark blue with calm seas. Bait and life in general was nowhere to be found on this day. Captain Yepez reported seeing 2 tailing striped marlin and a marlin bite.

Jan 28, 2016 again the Coloma’s tried their luck for marlin heading to the area of Punta Pitt on the North side of the island. This deep drop has been very productive year after year for blue and black marlin as well as some striped marlin. The water was dark blue with beautiful sea conditions. Unfortunately no marlin but a wahoo was caught and several tunas were lost.

Manta

Jan 26, 2016– several boats from the artesanal fleet reported blue marlin action about 13 miles North West of the Isla de la Plata. Most boats had 2 to 5 bites of blue marlin with a few striped marlin. Water was nice but the bait was scarcer than the previous week.

Jan 27, 2016– the Atomic reported 3 bites from blues and lost a striped marlin near the boat.

Jan 28, 2016– fishing slowed considerably as the fleet of artesanal boats reported only 1 to 3 bites from marlin on this day.

Jan 29, 2016– Captain Calero went out on his brand new 27 Custom Miura. He fished out 25 to 32 miles West of Manta and reported no billfish action on this day. 5 other boats reported 1 or less bites.

Jan 31, 2016– Amalita fishing West of Isla de La Plata caught a blue and a striped marlin. An artesanal boat reported 3 bites from striped marlin and catching 1.
