Another week of incredible marlin action to report from several of our destinations in Ecuador. The fishing is hot along most of the coast of Ecuador and boats are seeing action from blue and striped marlin.
ECUADOR
Salinas
The peninsula of Santa Elena is known for the resort town of Salinas and its historical marlin waters. The last few weeks the fishery has come alive with strong currents pushing South and water temperature now averaging 74 F for most of September.
September 22, 2016 – Don Agustin caught a nice blue and saw several striped marlin tailing that would not attack. Saray lost a blue marlin and saw several tailing striped marlin. Don Chuma caught 3 striped marlin out of 6. Juvenil caught a nice blue. Moni lost a striped marlin. Wahoo lost a blue marlin. Yo lost a blue and saw several striped marlin. Maranata lost a striped marlin and a blue.
September 23, 2016 – Don Agustin went 2/10 on striped marlin and 0/2 on blue marlin. Juvenil had 3/11 on striped marlin and went 0/1 on blue marlin. Very good action from striped marlin!
September 24, 2016 – Don Agustin 1/7 on striped marlin and lost a large blue marlin fighting. Juvenil 2/8 on striped marlin and reported seeing 16 tailing striped marlin. Saray caught 1 striped marlin and lost a blue. La Mari 2/5 on striped marlin and saw another 8 striped marlin. Florimar went 2/7 on striped marlin. Tommy Walker lost a striped marlin and reported several more tailing striped marlin seen. Maria Beatriz released 1/9 on striped marlin and 0/2 on blue marlin and reported seeing over 20 tailing striped marlin. Conchi 1/2 on blue marlin and 1/4 on striped marlin. Obsesion caught a striped marlin and saw 5 more striped marlin and a blue. Aguja Azul lost 3 marlin and saw over a dozen more tailing marlin.
September 25, 2016 – Don Chuma 0/1 on a blue and 0/1 on striped marlin and reported seeing 9 more tailing striped marlin. Florimar went 2/14 on striped marlin an saw over 40 tailing striped marlin. Gaby went 4/11 on striped marlin. Saray went 1/5 on striped marlin. Juvenil went 2/7 on striped marlin. Por Fin 0/1 on a blue marlin and 1/1 on striped marlin. Sea Walker 1/1 on blue marlin and 0/3 on striped marlin. Don Agustin had a school of striped marlin come into the spread and chaos broke loose and they could not make good on any of the multiple bites, they reported seeing several more tailing striped marlin. Charlie 1/3 on striped marlin and saw 10 tailing striped marlin.
Manta
September 24, 2016 – Isabela 1/2 on blue marlin and 1/1 on striped marlin. Titagao 1/2 on striped marlin. Miura 0/2 on striped marlin fighting and saw another tailing striped marlin.
September 25, 2016 – one boat reported fishing the 100 mile FAD going 2 for 8 on blue marlin. A skiff fishing closer to Manta went 1/3 on striped marlin and 0/1 on blue marlin. Beautiful water conditions North and West of Manta.
San Cristobal, Galapagos Islands
September 22, 2016 – Jhonamar 2 running to the 88 Bank found water 73 F with much life on the bank including dolphins, sea lions, tuna and frigate birds. The action was nice for Uruguayan father and son group Jorge Martinez and son Jorge Junior. The reported seeing over 70 plus tailing striped marlin all day! The bites came in doubles and triples with 31 raises in the spread 19 bites and 11 releases. Late in the day a blue marlin estimated around 800# came into the spread and latched on to a teaser. The anglers tried to get a bait to the big blue but it managed to break the bridge teaser line.
September 23, 2016 – Jhonamar 2 the Uruguayan father and son team returned to 88 Bank hoping to repeat the action from the previous day. Seas and conditions were a bit different with water clarity less than previous day. They raised 13 striped marlin and released 4. Not a bad day by all means.
