San Cristobal, Galapagos Islands
August 7, 2016 – Argentine guest Jose Perlonesco and his brother Antonio took advantage of our 20% summer discount and had a blast fishing onboard Jhonamar 2 on 88 Bank. The 68 mile run on choppy seas to the bank was rewarded by immediate action from striped marlin and big eye tuna with water at 72 F. Teaser went into the water and they had not fished 20 minutes when a double of striped marlin came into the spread. Both anglers made fine use of their skill and hooked and released both striped marlin. Teasers went back in the water and not long before a school of big eye tuna veraging 60# was busting flying fish next to the boat. 4 rods went off and the anglers landed 2/4 big eye tuna which would make nice sashimi. A triple of striped marlin was seen tailing and came in to isnpect the spread but would not eat. Right before lunch time a huge explosion crashed the right long and blue marlin estimated around 800# took off into the horizon. Large blues are known to bite in colder waters at times. This fish would not stop and despite best efforts to chase her down she spit the hook after about 20 jumps. Fishing slowed down for the rest of the day and the anglers decided to head in by 2 pm to get some rest and prepare the tuna in town.
August 8, 2016 – the Perlonesco brothers wanted to try some bottom fishing and headed about 25 minutes North of Port to catch grouper and jacks. They had a fun day with spinning tackle and jigging the reefs.
