Marlin fishing in Santa Cruz, Galapagos Islands | Ecuagringo

Santa Cruz Galapagos Marlin Fishing

The island of Santa Cruz is home to the largest population in Galapagos of approximately 18,000 residents. Restaurants, bars and hotels are part of the amenities here but the main attraction is the nature trails, wildlife, small boat tours, hiking, site seeing, giant tortoises and of course good marlin fishing. This was the island where Ecuagringo first opened its doors for charters with the first inshore charters in 1997. We began to do professional billfishing by 2001 with the 35 Bertram “Striper” and operated here until 2006 when we moved our boats and operation to San Cristobal. We continued to supply our guest with reliable crews and boats to fish in Santa Cruz until 2010. With such demand for fishing increasing in San Cristobal we directed all our attention to its waters. Today back by popular demand and because many of our anglers want the added attractions we are providing once again charters to this island paradise.

The island is in the center of the archipelago about 80% of all travelers pass through this island once they arrive in neighboring Baltra Airbase. A 45 KM road crosses the Island from its Western dry side bordering Baltra Island to the southeast side where sits Puerto Ayora, the island’s main town. There are highlands, giant tortoise habitat, farmlands, pastures and many great places to look as far as the eye can see. The Charles Darwin Station is located near Puerto Ayora and was home to the late and legendary “Lonesome George” giant Galapagos tortoise.

Why Fish Here?

If you are looking for an island full of activities for all the family then this is the place. Want nightlife? Several bars and discos to hang out. Like touring and site seeing with the option to island hop to Isabela, San Cristobal and Floreana Islands. The fishing from San Cristobal to the marlin grounds of 0-30 Bank, Bank 90 and Floreana waters are all proven marlin haunts. Santa Cruz may not have as many options when it comes to marlin banks as San Cristobal but the ones it does have has fueled the fishery for years. If you would like to target blue, striped and black marlin as well as great wahoo and tuna then you can try your hand at fishing here. Some of the biggest marlin caught and lost in the Galapagos have been fishing from Santa Cruz.

Season
The best time to fish for black, blue and striped marlin is December to April when waters are warmest and calmest. You will find good striped marlin fishing all year. The wahoo and tuna bite tend to be good all year as well.
