July 17, 2017– Current pushed North with water 71/72 F out to about 50 miles West of Manta. Fishing slowed and only a couple of Pangas went out reporting cold water and a slow marlin bite of 2 fish or less.
July 18, 2017– Conditions began to change and water current began pushing South but no boats fishing were reported.
July 19, 2017– Panga Don Teolfilo fished 35 miles out and found great water conditions. They raised 4 blue marlin and caught 2 and went 1/1 on striped marlin. Panga Henry went 1/3 on blue marlin landing one over 500 lbs. Panga Explorer lost a blue estimated over 800# and caught another around 300# out of three fish in the spread at the same time. Seems like large cows with smaller males coming through. Panga Explorer ended the day with 1/4 blues and 1/2 striped marlin.
July 20, 2017– Fishing took off today!! Pangas fishing 30 to 50 miles Northwest of manta reporte 4 to 8 raises of blue marlin per boat with over 8 pangas fishing in this area and several fish over 500 lbs reported. 6 pangas fishing West of Manta had action from 2 to 5 raises per boat. Panga San Luis was hooked up to a blue marlin for 6 hours before breaking it off and fish was estimated over 1000 lbs.
San Cristobal Island
July 19, 2017– Jhonamar 2 made the long run to 88 Bank 68 mile North East of san Cristobal Island to get a fishing report. The crew found water 75 F and the tunas feeding on the bank. Lots of life and sea conditions were good. Early in the morning they hooked up on a double of large big eye tuna pulling the hook on a 300 lbs plus while wiring the fish and landing another around 275 lbs. They went 7/13 on striped marlin and caught 6 more big eye tuna 55 to 75 lbs. The crew reported seeing dozens of tailing striped marlin and some surface feeding fish. There was plenty of sardines and flying fish on the bank which made it hard to interest the marlin into the spread.
